The thin element approximation (TEA) approach is an efficient algorithm to analyze microstructured interfaces, but it is only valid under the condition of paraxial illumination. We hereby develop an extended algorithm to include parabasal illumination, which is characterized by a low divergence with arbitrary propagation direction. In this report, we present such algorithm and compare the results with that of a rigorous calculation in order to demonstrate its validity.

Simultaneous spatial and temporal focusing (SSTF) draws more and more interest to control the focal region of ultrashort pulses. We perform simulations to propagate pulses through the focusing lens and into the focal region and investigate the appearance of the pulse front tilt (PFT). Furthermore a mathematical analysis is presented which shows that PFT is a fundamental consequence of SSTF.

Prisms are really widely used in lots of optical researches and developments. The modeling and design of prisms also become more and more important and urgent matters. Nowadays, there exists a wide variety of modeling techniques. In this report we use the concept of field tracing for simulation of the performance of optical prisms. Finally within the dispersive prism example, the basic algorithm and strategy of prism simulation are discussed briefly.
